						Guarani belongs to the Tupi-Guarani family of languages. It was adopted by the Spanish Jesuit missions and had grown to be an important written language by the 17th c. Today, Guarani is recognized as a "national" language in Paraguay. Most Paraguayans speak both Spanish and Guarani, disregarding of their ethnic origin. Plenty of popular literature and music has been published in this language.
